Lost My Dog last Night
« on: February 10, 2008, 08:32:15 PM »
So my girlfriends and one of my sisters and myself decided to go to Niagara Falls for the weekend to "blow off some steam". We stayed on the Canadian side and had a great time. We were just getting back from the casino around 3 am this morning whern my husband called and my heart dropped.."Its 3 am hes calling because something is wrong." I knew he didnt want to tell me over the phone, but he knew Id be upset if he didnt. Around 11 pm last night my female Mastiff Maddy May died. She was old for a Mastiff at the ripe age of 10 and had a stroke quite some time ago. She recovered fairly nicely from it and was doing fairly well. She started acting a bit funny Thur. night but didnt seem to be in any pain and was eating, drinking, etc...
Well last night hubby put a call into the vet as she seemd to be getting worse. The vet suggested waiting til the morning to see if she improved unless she seemed to be in pain. Hubby says she didnt seem to be hurting so he figured it could wait til then. About 5 minutes after hanging up with the vet she walked over to hubby (her Dad) lay her head at his feet and died.
I am so heartbroken. We got her from Rescue over 5 years ago. Drove in a snowstorn the day before Thanksgiving over 4 hours to pick her up. She was a good ol' girl and my male Mastiff and our other little female muttley are inconsolable, pacing the kitchen floor and looking out the windows.
I felt so horrible not being able to say goodbye to my girl. Hubby and my Uncle buried her last night under the tree in the field. The kiddos are ok, but they love their dogs just like we all do. Patrick my big tough 10 year old assured me over the phone last night through tears, "Dont worry Mom. Drive home safe tomorrow. Dad and I will tell Emma and Brayden in the morning. We can take care of it."
So much for a weekend of fun.
I know there are alot of other important things going on here right now (court battles, etc..)But I had to vent somewhere and knew you folks would understand.
Sending strength and peace to all of you!

Melissa,

I'm so sorry about the loss of Maddy May.  I have lots of hours logged logged laying on the floor crying with my doggies so I know how important that unconditional love is!  Charlie is cuddling up to Maddy May right now.

On another note, I'm glad you had the courage to take off and try to have some fun.  Hope you did have a bit of fun!

((((((Melissa)))))))

I know how close you are to your beloved puppies, my heart goes out to you and your family.  I know Charlie was standing up there waiting for Maddy May to run in to his open arms.  I'll be saying a prayer for you and yours tonight.

God bless,

Oh Melissa... I know exactly how u feel because if you have had a chance to read any of my posts, we are going throug the same thing with Aiko, Jason's dog.  He refuses to eat, drink but last night, he ate pizza crust.  It was amazing.  Jason would give him pizza all the time.  Life is so sad and I hope that your children and you husband will be able to be close enough to you right now, missing Charlie and your beloved dog.

I'm sorry Melissa,  losing a faithful pet companion that is linked to our loss is so sad and heartbreaking.
Patrick's reassurance to you over the phone through the tears was amazing -he's a tough 10 year old.

I'm glad you vented here- yes, we understand.
Please take care

Mellissa,
So sorry to hear about Maddy May.  I am sure that she had the best life possible with you and your family.  Also what everyone has said about your son Patrick is true.  What a very brave and grown up young man he is.
Love and hugs
