POEM: The Ghost of Christmas Past

The Ghost of Christmas Past
By John Plourde

I startled awake last night from my bed
The dream I had of you still in my head
For one moment, I forgot you were dead

The dream was of Christmas’ past
A happy Christmas day, our last together
A Christmas day that went by so fast

Once a time of joy, now a time of tears
Never did we think this would happen to us
Once a happy family with no fears

A Christmas day spent with family and friends
Watching you enjoy your gifts
I prayed this happy day would never end

Now Christmas is a day filled with grief
Wishing Christmas would never come again
When the day is over, breathing a sigh of relief

On Christmas morning, no more joy
Watching you tear open your gifts
So very much wanting that special toy

Not wanting to go to church makes us so sad
Watching all the complete happy families
Going to church now makes us so mad

Lighting a special candle for you
Speaking a poem in your honor
Your loving family missing you too

Now we gather around your grave
Our sad tears fall on your stone
If only we would have known
Memories of Christmas past are what we save

Always on my mind
Forever in my heart
I love you my child
Rest in Heavenly Peace
Wishing You All Continuous Comfort & Peace,

John, what a poem.  So very true so touching.  Christmas of pasts were so enjoyable, I so looked forward to them with the kids opening their presents.  Now, as the poem says, there is no Christmas here, just get the day over.

As always thank you for your meaningful post.

Thinking of you and Danielle

John,
That was written so well!  I know exactly what you mean.  So sorry for us all, especially at this time of year.
