Youngersis ~ first I would like to thank you for responding to my post.  here is the poem, it was called "A Pair of Shoes"......it makes me cry, and I am sure it will make you cry, but it is such a good medaphor (sp?) for what our parents are going though.  Let me know what you think...does it ring true for your mom, too?  I sent this to my mom, and she printed it out, she felt is was so true.  She also sent a copy to her aunt who tragically lost her son in a head on collision with a drunk driver.

Take care of yourself....

"A Pair of Shoes"
author unknown

I am wearing a pair of shoes.
They are ugly shoes.
Uncomfortable shoes.
I hate my shoes.
Each day I wear them, and each day I wish I had another pair.
Some days my shoes hurt so bad that I do not think I can take another step.
Yet, I continue to wear them.
I get funny looks wearing these shoes. They are looks of sympathy.
I can tell in others eyes that they are glad they are my shoes and not theirs.
They never talk about my shoes.
To learn how awful my shoes are might make them uncomfortable.
To truly understand these shoes you must walk in them.
But, once you put them on, you can never take them off.
I now realize that I am not the only one who wears these shoes.
There are many pairs in this world.
Some women are like me and ache daily as they try and walk in them.
Some have learned how to walk in them so they don’t hurt quite as much.
Some have worn the shoes so long that days will go by before they think
about how much they hurt.
No woman deserves to wear these shoes.
Yet, because of these shoes I am a stronger woman.
These shoes have given me the strength to face anything.
They have made me who I am.
I will forever walk in the shoes of a woman who has lost a child.

Browneyedgirl,
Thank you so much for finding the poem for me!  It made me cry too.  I will definitely share it with my mom.

You're right, there haven't been many posts on this sibling forum lately.  Maybe people are busy with summer activities and vacations....

But it does help me to read and post, as I hope it is helping you in the healing process.

Thanks for posting (ignore my message on your 'other post').  That is a very powerful piece.  I feel like I could substiute "man" for "woman" and "sister" for "child" and it fits me to a T.

My sister, Jori, has now been gone for eight months (she was my best friend).  It is strange to even write that.  I don't think my mom could handle that poem - not yet; but thank you for sharing it (like I said, it 'works for me').

Browneyedgirl,

Through tears.... thank you.  I had not read this poem or just don't remember it.

It certainly does say it all.  I have collected poems along this journey and this is one to print and save.  I also hold a grief support group at my church and it resumes in September.  I will pass this along as I do other poems.

Thank you again,
Jeanne

You are all welcome.  I am glad that it had the same effect on you as it did me.  Again, thank you for responding to my posts.

You are all in my thoughts as we continue on this journey that has changed our lives.

Take care.
